Map to Mescal from Host Hotel

MAP: Host Hotel (Williams Centre) to the Sunday Morning Mescal, AZ "Takeover" with an intermediary stop to gather and form our highway caravan.

PLEASE READ! >> Our Sunday morning drive to the Mescal Movie Set begins with a choice of TWO caravan gathering points for our half-hour journey. The Shell-Halo station convenience store meeting location is intended for Pontiacs that are DRIVEN to the filming site. The other meet-up location is at the Pilot Travel Center and is intended for all Tow Rigs and GMCs either with or without trailers. These two rendezvous points are about one mile apart, and both offer restrooms, fuel, and coffee (diesel fuel only at the truck stop). Choose just one of these locations prior to caravanning to Mescal via Interstate 10 East.

REMEMBER: BRING A $20 CASH ENTRY FEE, TO BE PAID AT THE ENTRY GATE IN MESCAL. See below...

DIRECTIONS TO RENDEZVOUS POINTS:
Upon exiting the Host Hotel's parking lot, head east on Williams Blvd. Go for 0.03 miles.

Turn right (south) onto Craycroft Road. Head south for 0.7 mi.

Turn right (west) onto 22nd Street. Head west for 1.0 mi.

Turn left (south) onto Swan Road. Head south for 0.8 mi.

Turn right (west) onto Golf Links Road. Proceed in main lanes of traffic for 1.7 mi., and after a long, gentle, sweeping curve and an overpass (bridge) you're now heading south again. There, this thoroughfare becomes known as Alvernon Way. Continue for 1.7 mi.

As you approach Interstate 10, merge into the left lane. At the traffic signal, turn left and take the I-10 onramp EAST towards El Paso. Proceed for 2.7 mi. on I-10.

>>> IF YOU ARE STOPPING AT THE PILOT TRAVEL CENTER MEET-UP:

Take Exit #268 (Craycroft Road) and proceed on frontage road for 0.4 mi.

At the traffic signal, turn left (north) onto Craycroft Road and cross underneath the Interstate, an then turn right into the Pilot station at 5570 E. Travel Plaza Way, Tucson, AZ 85756

>>> or, IF YOU PREFER TO STOP AT THE SHELL-HALO CONVENIENCE STORE MEET-UP IN YOUR PONTIAC:
Continuing from the directions above, once you're heading EAST on Interstate 10, continue for 3.8 mi.

Take Exit #269 (Wilmot Road) and proceed on frontage road for 0.5 miles

At the traffic signal, turn right (south) onto Wilmot Road to the Shell station at 7710 S. Wilmot Road, Tucson, AZ 85756

>>> BOTH CARAVANS DEPART AT 9:45am, HEADING EAST TO MESCAL

When it is time for each separate caravan to head out at 9:45am, return to Interstate 10 EAST using the marked onramp.

Continue at a safe highway cruising speed, for 27 mi.

Caravan Etiquette:
Use the "two second rule." A
s you pass any stationary object at highway speed, put two seconds worth of distance beween you and the vehicle in front of you. Stay in the right lane except to pass slower vehicles.

Take Exit #297 (Mescal Road/J-Six Ranch Road)

At the top of the offramp, turn left (north) onto Mescal Road and cross over the Interstate. Proceed through the rural community for 3.1 mi. At one point during this stretch, you'll cross over a set of railroad tracks. Up ahead, on the rise to the left, you'll be able to see some of the Mescal buildings.

Watch for the discreet Mescal entry sign and turn left (west) off the two-lane paved road and onto the dirt/gravel driveway. To minimize dust, please drive slowly for 0.4 mi. to the entry gate at 1538 N. Mescal Road, Benson, AZ 85602

We know that many of you will be anxious to soon head out and be on your way home, but we kindly ask each participant to please remain in the Town through at least 11:00am. Yes, you may move your vehicle anywhere desired for your own photo placements. Please watch for pedestrians and try to keep dust to a minimum.

>>> VERY IMPORTANT MESCAL NOTES:
- After departing from our Tucson rendezvous points, there are NO other fuel stops en route to Mescal.

- Each vehicle entering the TOWN portion of the Mescal site will be charged $20,
regardless of the number of passengers inside. Those who leave their vehicles out in the service parking lot will not be charged.

- We will do our best to coordinate one official photo of each Pontiac, Oakland, and GMC Truck as it enters, with the iconic Mescal Saloon as the backdrop. Please be patient and follow instructions provided by the volunteers.

-
All tow rigs and trailers are to be unloaded in the service parking lot and are to remain outside of the actual Town area, please. You may then drive your show vehicle into the Town area for display and photos.

- Listen for announcements as to when and where the optional complementary hosted walking tour(s) will begin. No extra cost to enjoy this historic experience.

- Mescal is a rustic, undeveloped site. It is NOT like a theme park with organized concessions, restaurants or vendors.
There are no flush toilets onsite. Only porta-potties with hand-wash stations can be found there.

- Complimentary refreshments will be available inside Mescal's Saloon, courtesy of the Valley of the Sun Pontiacs Chapter #107

- Depending on weather, it may be advisable to bring a hat and light jacket.

-
You may stay onsite as long as you wish, but between the walking tours of the historic buildings and the car photography, you'll likely be done around High Noon.

SUGGESTION:
Out-of-town visitors who plan to stick around Southern Arizona following our final Mescal takeover event ought to consider a tour of nearby Kartchner Caverns State Park while in the Mescal area. (Best if you search for it online and then make an advance reservation for a cave tour, beginning anytime after 1pm on Sunday; only a few lucky walk-ups without reservations are admitted each hour.)
